Grief Accompaniment
Grief Care offers gentle, ongoing support for people who are grieving or seeking to better understand the experience of loss. Our approach is grounded in presence, compassion, and respect for your unique journey.
We offer three pathways of support:
- Grief Accompaniment Calls – You can receive a supportive phone call around three months and one year days after the date of the funeral or service. These conversations offer a caring check-in and the opportunity to talk through how you’re managing.
- Face-to-Face Grief Support – Our trained practitioners are available to meet in person, offering one-on-one companionship and guidance through your grief experience.
- Grief Care Gatherings – We host regular small group gatherings, including Compassionate Companions and Compassionate Companions Men’s Group. These provide a safe, non-judgmental space to share stories, listen, and find connection. Groups meet via Zoom or in person.
Grief Care practitioners can also recommend additional resources or referrals, if needed.

Education & Programs
Grief Care offers support for communities to grow in understanding bereavement, trauma and the grief and loss experience. We develop and circulate evidence-based resources that reflect current research and contemporary best practice in grief care.
We offer mentoring, education, resources and workshops that develop understanding and build capacity for sustained community care, working with parishes, schools, hospitals, and ‘Care’ organisations to develop programs according to their needs.
Our Services
Funeral Preparation and
Lay-Led Funerals
The Grief Care team is available to lead funeral services as an alternative to a priest or ordained minister. Their role may include presiding over graveside interments and/or conducting funeral services.
In addition to officiating, the Grief Care team can guide, support, and prepare both religious/spiritual and secular Orders of Service. They provide compassionate care for those who prefer not to have a clergy or religious minister involved in the funeral service.
